Owning and operating an automobile comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. Regular maintenance and repairs are vital to maintaining the functionality of a vehicle, and many drivers find themselves investing in replacement parts for their vehicles each year.

Finding creative ways to use the car parts that are no longer viable can help eliminate landfill waste and give you a unique item to display in your home. Here are three creative ideas to help you put your old car parts to a new use.

1. Create a wine rack.

Enjoying a glass of wine can be a simple way to unwind at the end of the day, and you can easily use some old car parts to create a unique storage area for your wine bottles. If your car's engine has recently been replaced, you can use the old engine block as a wine rack.

All you need to do is invest a little time and effort into removing the dirt, grease, and oil from the old engine block. Then just turn it on its side and place your wine bottles in the round cylinder heads.

2. Create a desktop organizer.

If you have a lot of paperwork sitting on your desk at home, some used auto parts could be just what you need to get organized. If you have recently had to replace the coil springs in your car's suspension system, the old springs could make a great file organizer.

All you need to do is use a piece of steel wool to remove the oil, grease, and some of the loose rust (a little rust adds to the design aesthetic), and then use a clear spray paint to seal the spring. Place the spring horizontally on your desk, and use the space between coils to place files and other papers. Having your paperwork stored in an upright position makes it more accessible, and an old car spring provides the perfect tool for this upright organization.

3. Make a side table.

Side tables are always useful, and you can use old car parts to help you design a side table that will be unique to your home. Using an old engine block that has been replaced, you can create a side table with an automotive vibe.

Thoroughly clean the engine block to ensure no grease or oil remains on its surface. Place the block in a vertical position, and then add a round piece of glass for a tabletop. These side tables make the perfect addition to any man cave.

Finding ways to re-purpose your used car parts can be fun. Try making a wine rack, desk organizer, or side table the next time your car needs replacement parts from a company like Four-Twenty-Two Auto Wrecking.
